From Dirk, 19/04/05

The modification and mounting in a Skyranger is simple and straight forward.
Weight: depends on the accessories you hang on, empty engine = 59kg then carbs, strarter, ignition, exhausts, alternator, prop hub, flywheel, prop and oil, you end up towards 75kg.. Radiator, tubing and cooling liquid have to be added but 80kg is very well feasible. I've made a carbon sump & valve covers, looks good and removes 5.5kg.
Engine Mount: The engine is hung on 3 barry mount cups one in front, prop side and two on the back. Bolted on existing engine bolds also two alu tubes go from each.cyl. head in a "V" form to the "knot" point of the fuselage at the top of the nose wheel bar to stabilize sideways engine movements. I've used the bottom point as for the 912 installation with its silent block where a steel "U" shape connected to the engine is fixed. From there two stabilizing tubes goes to the outside in inverted "V" shape, where floor board and front cross tubes meet. It's very simple and straight forward.
There is lots of cowling space, however use low profile carbs because the engine has to hang as high as possible.
Performances: It is not a racer, cruise will be 120 Km/h at 3000rpm Vmax about 150 km/h at 3600 VZ will be 600 f/mn at 90km/h. The average consumption made check over 100hs is 975 lts, maybe the engine could be leaned-out a bit more.
Comparison: I have 3 fly-buddies one Rans coyote rotax 582, one Sky rotax 582 and one kitfox subaru EA71 with reduction drive. I have the lowest clime rate and the lowest fuel burn. We cruise all at about the same speed the Sky 582 has the highest clime rate and the Coyote is the fatest but they are all tiny pilots ( I'm more that 220lbs!!)
